FEDERAL SKILLED TRADES PROGRAM
In accordance with specified terms and limitations, Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) began accepting applications for permanent residency under the Federal Skilled Trade Program on January 2, 2013.
 
REQUIREMENTS:
  1. One must either hold a certificate of qualification for the trade from a Canadian provincial regulatory body or have an offer of employment from Canadian Employers for a minimum of one year.
  2. Candidates should be fluent in at least one of Canada’s official languages.
  3. Have 24 months of work experience in the skilled trade, after the trade qualification.
  4. Be capable to meet the requirements of the job offers or trade-in Canada.
CERTIFICATION OR OFFER OF EMPLOYMENT
Canada’s provinces are in charge of trade certification.
Obtaining the provincial certificate from outside of Canada is frequently challenging.
When a tradesperson receives a job offer that is accepted by a reputable employer, this program is very advantageous to them.
 Not all trades in Canada are regulated in every province.
An offer of employment becomes mandatory where a trade is not regulated.
 
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT:
  1. An applicant should have sufficient language proficiency in one of Canada”s official languages.
  2.  Applicants should have his/ her basic command of the English or French language with the ability to speak, listen, read, and write.
  3. Only the CIC-designated testing agency’s results will be considered. The two most popular language tests are the IELTS for English and the TEF for French.
