The BCPNP is the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program
The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP) aims to expedite the application process for persons looking to permanently emigrate to British Columbia and apply for Canadian permanent residence status.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), the federal immigration agency, collaborates with the British Columbia government to manage the program. A two-step process must be followed by interested candidates:
Submit an application for nomination to the province government first, and if successful, submit an application for permanent residence to the federal government.
Each year, IRCC allots a set number of nominations to the candidates for the BCPNP.
The Express Entry BC, Skills Immigration, and Entrepreneur Immigration subcategories are the three main application categories accepted by the BC PNP. has distinct streams for each.
The BC PNP Tech Pilot
The BC PNP Tech Pilot enables immigration officials in British Columbia to expedite the processing of applicants for immigration to Canada for in-demand technology jobs.
Candidates with experience in one of the 29 qualified vocations in the BC technology industry are invited based on weekly draws.
Applications under the current BC immigration streams in the technology industry are given priority under the BC PNP Tech Pilot. Candidates must meet the fundamental conditions of a relevant British Columbia immigration category or stream, including an employment offer from a B.C. company with a minimum one-year commitment.
Healthcare professionals, international post-graduates, entry-level and semi-skilled workers, as well as skilled workers, fall within the eligibility categories.
PROCESSING TIME
For Express Entry BC and Skills Immigration nomination applications, a timeline of two to three months is anticipated.
However, the BC PNP estimates a 6-week wait period for applications under the Entrepreneur Immigration program. When applying for a work permit, an additional 4-week processing period must be added to the date of application submission.
At the federal level, IRCC currently takes 15 to 19 months to review provincial non-Express Entry nomination applications. The typical wait time for Express Entry streams is 6 months.
